Community Energy Action is a leading New Zealand energy efficiency trust based in Christchurch, with a focus on the development of low income residential energy efficiency.
A fantastic opportunity has arisen in our fast-paced, small team environment for an individual who is both an outgoing, persuasive communicator, possessing exceptional relationship development skills, and who also has a passion for the environment that would make them, at very least, a fast learner of energy efficiency techniques.This is a strategic position and will be responsible for research projects in the area of home energy efficiency and providing written analysis and reports on developments in this area. With guidance from the CEO, you will also be responsible both for caring for our funders and for raising the funds we need to run our services by developing, implementing and driving innovative approaches which includes grants from both private and public sectors. You will be expected to create a monthly reporting framework to both the Board and to the funding bodies. Ideally you will also be responsible for maintaining the Trusts website and/or giving presentations to the public.
This is a full-time, 37.5 hour a week position, with variation of duties from week to week depending on priorities at the time.
To be eligible for this role, you must be able to demonstrate:
  • Passion this is critical; both for first-class customer service in face-to-face encounters as well as over the phone/in writing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrable experience in report preparation.
  • Good knowledge of and successful track record in grant-writing, fundraising and profile-raising techniques.
  • Aptitude in I.T. and web administration ability to use e-marketing techniques.
  • Past experience in helping people in an NGO context.
  • The ability to learn and be open to new ideas.
  • An appreciation of non-profit sector values and operating environment.
Home energy efficiency technical knowledge and awareness of the energy sector and its impact on household energy efficiency is important but not essential, however it is important that you have an interest in sustainability and a broad understanding and knowledge of home energy needs.

You will also be ensuring projects are developed in line with Shells guidelines. Additionally you will provide facilities input to all CAPEC and OPEX work programmes.
The successful applicant will have either a process or disciplined engineering degree with substantial post graduate experience in the oil & and gas industry, ideally with some a portion of this of this time spent as a front end engineer. You will have substantial experience, a proven record of working independently and be the ability to work with prepared for uncertainty and with great foresight.

Downer EDI Mining is seeking an experienced Drill & Blast Engineer to join our open cut mining business. The initial appointment will be a secondment for approximately 12 months to our mining alliance at Stockton mine in New Zealand but could extend beyond that period. Based in Westport on the South Island of New Zealand, candidates will work a residential roster of 5:2 and company accommodation will be provided.

Initially reporting to the Stockton Alliance Technical Services Manager, you will assist in the efficient management of the waste removal through effective Drill & Blast design and implementation. Using your sound understanding of mining activities and equipment, as part of the mine planning team you will be responsible for providing Drill & Blast design and management to the operation.

Upon completion of the secondment, further career development will be available in other Downer EDI Mining operations in Australia.

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in mining or civil engineering
  • Experience in open cut coal mining with Drill & Blast experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise with a broad spectrum of people is essential
  • A high level of computer literacy with a working knowledge of databases and scheduling processes
  • Previous experience with Vulcan software would be an advantage
