The New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) is responsible for protecting the community from potential risks arising from international trade and travel, while facilitating the legitimate movement of people and goods across the border, supporting trade, and collecting customs and excise revenue on behalf of the Crown.
Customs has three main priorities for the medium term; these are:
Trade – Streamline and simplify trade facilitation, and promote secure and efficient trade, particularly with Australia and China
Travel – More efficient, streamlined and secure passenger facilitation, particularly for trans-Tasman and Asia-Pacific travel
Security – Increase disruption of supply chains and dismantle criminal networks, particularly for illicit drugs and people smuggling, and maintain responsiveness as risks change
The Role:
We have a vacancy for a Team Leader, Free Trade Agreement Negotiation and Implementation,in the Trade Facilitation and Compliance Policy Team.
- Provide policy advice on Customs aspects of free trade agreements and their implementation
- Represent Customs interests in New Zealands trade negotiations
- Work across Customs and with other agencies to ensure the effective implementation of concluded trade agreements
- Develop and amend regulations to support New Zealands trade agreement obligations
We are looking for applicants with the necessary leadership skills, a comprehensive understanding of the policy context in which we work, and an appropriate tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant work experience.
The role is in a supportive environment and may also suit applicants who seek to step into a development opportunity involving team leadership.
Key Activities:
The Team Leader represents Customs internally and externally and the role involves significant relationship management. You will be working across sectors, applying your:
- Knowledge of Governments and Customs directions
- Leadership skills
- Expertise in Legislation and Policy
Applicants must be New Zealand Citizens or Permanent Residents and be able to obtain a Secret security clearance.
