The Environmental Strategy and Policy Department operates as a specialist Environmental Centre of Excellence for Auckland Council and its CCO subsidiaries. It provides expertise in the areas of urban design, heritage and environmental management (air, land, water, coast).

The Manager Business Support plays a pivotal role in the success of this department and reports directly to the Manager Environmental Strategy and Policy (The Councils Urban Design Champion).

You will be responsible for liaising with all units and teams within the department and across council to ensure that your team provides efficient and effective support services and day-to-day delivery of business processes and administration services. A priority for this role will be developing innovative business systems and support for the Centre of Excellence model in becoming a world-leading centre of its kind.

The successful candidate will need extensive experience in managing the annual planning and budgeting process as well as monthly reporting, project management and implementation of business plan initiatives and key performance indicators.

This is a busy and varied role and is not for the faint-hearted, it would suit a ‘big-picture’ thinker who has the ability to challenge the norm and think outside the box.

Excellent written communication skills are essential as is your methodical approach and excellent relationship management skills.

Your experience of managing a team and ability to coach and develop direct reports whilst managing a demanding yet rewarding workload will see you succeed in this role.

To be successful you will need:

  • A positive attitude – simple, fast, bold
  • A passion for Auckland and the wider environment
  • A tertiary qualification in planning, resource management, business administration or relating discipline
  • Five to 10 years experience in the public sector business planning processes including preparation of an LTCCP, Annual Plan and Annual Reports
  • A minimum of five years experience in managing a team, preferably in a political or highly complex organisation
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking ability
