You will be taught how to handle weapons, and receive adventure and outdoor training.
Psychology Officers in the New Zealand Army provide psychological services, advice and research at all levels of the organisation.
Most facets of industrial/organisational psychology, in addition to military psychology, are encompassed in the work, and as such the Army Psychology Service offers an unparalleled and unique opportunity for graduates to gain a broad range of experience in a professional and ‘user friendly’ environment. You could be deployed overseas, help with screening potential recruits and even be involved with helping soldiers and officers through the potentially hard times pre and post-deployment. You will have a high level responsibility and input into key decisions from an early stage in your career.
New Zealand Army Psychology Officers also undertake a host of research to help us with our goal of becoming a world class Army with Mana.
You will certainly not be stuck in the same little room for the rest of your working days, and you will never have to worry about finding your own clients, or their ability to pay. The Army lifestyle affords all kinds of perks you just dont find anywhere else. Not just free dental and health care, but travel opportunities, as well as free access to gyms, pools and personal trainers. There are also opportunities to further your professional development and the possibility of further tertiary study.
We will need to see an up to date CV to ensure you currently have the technical skills and qualifications required. The role of Psychologist Officer is considered a Specialist Office role. If your application is advanced, you will be required to attend an Officer Selection Board, a week long series of tests held at the Trentham Army base. If you are offered a position as a Psychologist Officer in the New Zealand Army, you will be posted to one of our NZDF locations around the country.

This is essential for registration and therefore employment as a psychologist in the NZ Army. If you are not already registered, the NZDF is a recognised agency for the supervision and registering of psychologists.
It is also a requirement that all applicants be a permanent resident or citizen of New Zealand and to have either a) lived in New Zealand for the last 5 years, or b) held citizenship of Australia, Canada, UK or the USA for at least the last 10 years.
