Not everyone can master the delicate balance between being an expert in their field and being a good people manager.
This role will really test what you are made of. You’ll get involved in everything from challenging litigations, to facilitating dialogue on complex applications to come to a resolution – you will really have to be on your game to ensure that there is a fair and reasonable outcome. It also goes without saying that you will share your knowledge by taking an active role in mentoring and coaching the rest of the team.
With the responsibility for ensuring that the Planning division has the capability and capacity to meet legislative requirements, you’ll be using and further enhancing your coaching and delegation skills. You’ll also have the added challenge of ensuring that the team work in a proactive and customer focused manner. ‘Cause even though we know that, unlike retail, our customers don’t necessarily have a choice who they deal with, it is still important to us that we still are able to provide them with great service.
You will also have the genuine opportunity to develop this role and make it your own. We are big advocates of continuous improvement which is why you’ll also have the responsibility for providing feedback on processes and systems; and then help your team to implement these changes. You will be expected to be a role model for your team, both in attitude and in professional delivery. Success in this role will be measured not only by your outputs, but also those of your team.
This role will not always be an easy one, but we are very confident that it will certainly be a rewarding career choice for you. You will leave this role armed with the knowledge, experience, and confidence to be a very strong contender for a Planning Manager position. We will support you with a personalised development plan to ensure that you, and the team, succeed.
