This role is a rare opportunity to utilise your engineering expertise and make the transition into the exciting and lucrative mining industry. Due to a market-wide shortage of trained mining engineers, our client has developed a generous re-training program to assist competent and experienced civil engineers to expand their skill-base into the field of mining operations. Aside from a notably higher level of remuneration, the mining industry opens doors for engineers to live and work in some of the most amazing, challenging, remote, busy and exciting locations around the globe.This position will be based in the South Island at a major coal mining operation utilising truck and shovel techniques. You will work amongst a team of proven professionals in the technical services department, growing and developing with a combination of technical support and training, and hands on experience. As you progress in your training, you will become experienced in a variety of mining engineering responsibilities, including:
- Mine design including pit, waste dumps and ramps
- Drill and Blast design
- Production planning and scheduling
- Contractor liaison and management
- Short to long term mine planning
The following will be essential to be considered for one of these attractive roles:
- BEng in Civil
- Proven experience in design/project engineering for projects containing significant earthworks and geotechnical elements
- Motivation to put in some ground work to successfully grow your skillset in mining engineering
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
