We are Salted Herring, and were looking for that special someone.We are looking for someone who has amazing detailed front-end skills in HTML and JavaScript plus solid back-end experience with server side languages and databases.You will have a major influence on the technology decisions in our small agency and will need to be communicating with clients about this in non-geek speak.While we arent looking for a designer type, youll require an appreciation for design, and when asked to move something by a single pixel your response should generally be yes dear. After all, thats what real commitment is all about.A little more about us.Salted Herring is a boutique digital design agency based in Wellington with clients both in NZ and overseas. We specialise in creating high end online experiences, which are unique for each client and project through a range of digital channels. As well as being innovative, our work uses a variety of integrated rich media to give a lively and emotive aspect to the sites, apps and campaigns we develop for our clients.You will work closely with another developer on a range of projects, from large applications to small websites and content management systems.We share a studio space with some other like minded creative types, its all open plan but nothing weird.A little more about you.You:- an experienced and responsible technology guru, ready to be a big part of our little team- an excellent, talented all round developer with a range of high level front end and back end web skills- have relevant examples in your portfolio of projects you have worked on- have an incredible eye for detail and interest in great design- work well under the direction of perfectionist creatives- think laterally and come up with great technical solutions to fit client briefs- communicate clearly with clients (and have near-perfect English)- love pushing boundaries with JavaScript animation and interaction- enjoy setting up a solid back-end; in particular easy to use, long lasting CMSs- can work to tight deadlines- can accurately estimate time required on jobs (and stick to those estimates)- you are good at finishing projects through to the last detail, particularly in regards to de-bugging and testing- youre eager to learn and up-skill; we dont expect you will know everything which is needed on our projects but you’ll need to be hungry to learn what you dont know- and most importantly you can laugh at yourselfPrerequisites:Advanced HTML and CSSAdvanced JavaScriptExperience with a server scripting language (PHP, Python, ASP or similar)Experience with SQL on any database platformExperience with customisng WordPress sitesFamiliarity with a one or more existing HTML CMS systems eg DrupalExperience integrating web sites with social media, Google maps or other APIsUnderstanding of browser differences and what this means for testingSome system admin skills XMLSome Flash AS3Experience with version control systemsExperience with building ecommerce sites would be a bonusApplications:So if youre who weve been dreaming about then please submit a cover letter explaining why you’re the ‘one’, show us some examples of your work, as well as a CV detailing your education and work experience by email.
