Geospatial capability is a key enabler to better support our internal statistical needs and to meet the expectations of users.

The Geospatial team are responsible for providing the geospatial infrastructure, tools and capability to support statistical activity. We are about to embark on a two year Geospatial Infrastructure Project to transform our legacy geographic frame to an address-point based geospatial frame using ArcGIS technology. This new geospatial infrastructure will be responsive and aligned to our statistical requirements around addressing, geospatial data, integration with systems, infrastructure and statistical data. A key part of this role involves; engaging with internal stakeholders to ensure statistical requirements and geospatial solutions meet need, ensuring business continuity is maintained and building geospatial capability.

This position has a generic Senior Analyst job description with a focus on geospatial knowledge and technical GIS skills.

To be successful in this role you will have sound analytical skills and relevant technical experience in GIS, in particular:

  • a university degree in Statistics, Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Planning or related discipline, or equivalent
  • demonstrated knowledge and technical skills using ESRI’s suite of GIS products including ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox and ArcGIS Server experience is an advantage
  • experience in programming technologies Python and Microsoft .NET
  • previous experience in developing a geospatial environment/SDE environment
  • strong skills in data management including expertise in relational database management systems and related software (SQL Server)
  • proficient knowledge of modelling and analysis using GIS software and datasets
  • experience in investigating and resolving user problems with the GIS systems
  • monitoring of and reporting on data integrity, identification and implementation of standard procedures
  • highly developed conceptual and analytical thinking ability to identify new ways of working
  • provide technical leadership and convey specialist knowledge to develop geospatial capability
  • well developed consultation skills in order to engage with stakeholders and ensure the uptake of geospatial tools
  • outstanding interpersonal skills and enthusiasm to work effectively with the team
  • ability to relate to a diverse range of people and respond to their varying requirements.
