New Zealand Stock Exchange currently has an opening for an Senior Linux Systems Engineer to be part of the IT operations team. The IT Operations team currently supports the infrastructure vital to the New Zealand Financial and Electricity markets, and the Australian grain market, these are the:- New Zealand Stock Exchange Trading & Clearing Systems;- New Zealand Electricity Market Systems;- Australia Clear Grain Exchange Market;- New Zealand Gas Allocation System;- internal NZX offices.You will initially take on remote support of the Australian Clear Grain Exchange (CGX) Systems, Servers and Network Infrastructure with the datacentre and office located in Melbourne.As well as CGX Infrastructure, you will gain exposure to other markets Infrastructure as we aim to cross-train everyone across the different environments. This could take the form of daily informal conversations with your peers, or during project planning sessions. Potentially you will be assisting your peers supporting other Systems Infrastructures.The position is based in Wellington at NZX Centre but it will require initial and occasion travel to Melbourne. Your TasksYour prime directive will be to work with the developers, the business users and the rest of the operations team to provide first class operational infrastructure support. Some of the tasks you will be required to perform will be:
- Remote and local support of the CGX production environment , test and development environments.
- Work closely with the development team to setup the different systems to support the CGX different environments, also you will be involved in the planning of hardware, system requirements and infrastructure in general of any new application developed by the development team.
- Server configuration and installation, troubleshooting, hardware troubleshooting, web server configuration and tuning, DNS configuration, network connectivity troubleshooting.
Skills and ExperienceWhat you will bring to the role:

- A tertiary qualification in an IT-related subject
- Strong Technical knowledge on Enterprise Linux Administration
- Experience in a similar environment supporting Enterprise Linux Server environment.
- Experience working on mixed OS server environments
- General Network Knowledge: Switches, Routing, Firewalls.
- The ability to manage your own time and maintain priorities
- The capability to work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
- The ability to understand and explain complex problems both verbally and in written form
- A courteous and professional customer service manner
- Strong troubleshooting skills and a customer centric approach
