The Ministry of Science and Innovation (MSI) is a new agency with an exciting and ambitious mandate. Its role is to maximise the contribution science and innovation make to the economic growth of New Zealand and its social wellbeing. This will be achieved through focused strategies and policies, building connections throughout New Zealand’s science and innovation systems and ensuring these systems are operating well. MSI will also work to build the reputation of science and innovation domestically and internationally.
The Science Strategy and Investment Group focuses on identifying and investing in strategic partnering opportunities for New Zealand science to achieve economic outcomes. The Sector Managers are responsible for facilitating sector investment strategies and setting research priorities with key players to ensure New Zealand builds a productive and balanced portfolio of science investment.
These roles are available across three teams:
- Biological Industries
- Environment and Society
- Manufacturing and Resources
To be successful you will need to be able to demonstrate the following skills and attributes:
- Knowledge of the sector
- Experience in managing investment in either the public or private sector
- Proven track record of effectively influencing and networking with external agencies
- Ability to engage and build networks with the science community
- Understanding of the public sector management environment and the machinery of government
- Strong interpersonal skills and political understanding
