Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park is a great place to live and work if you are a climber and skier. Some of New Zealand’s best mountain landscape is on our doorstep, steep alpine terrain; awesome glaciers and big ski runs are all features of the area.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, well organised and appropriately experienced person(s) to work as a team member within the Visitor Assets, Search and Rescue (SAR) and Emergency Services programmes.

Participating in alpine rescue operations and training, you will require a robust alpine climbing background with a depth of experience to operate in the mountains year round. Managing risk, personal and team safety, as well as the ability to maintain a cool head in an emergency, are all key attributes required of the successful candidate.

Preferably you will have experience in maintaining huts and tracks, which is a key component of the job, as is a flexible attitude to work hours and extended periods in the backcountry.

As the candidate will be required to participate in other functions within the Department, they will ideally live in Aoraki/Mt Cook Village.
