Our iconic Kauri and kauri ecosystems are under threat from a fungal-like disease which is causing ‘Kauri Dieback’.
To address this issue the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is working in partnership with Tangata Whenua, the Department of Conservation, Northland Regional Council, Auckland Council, Waikato Regional Council and Bay of Plenty Regional Council to implement a kauri dieback management programme.
We need forest owners and users to understand the impacts of kauri dieback, and the part they can play in preventing the spread of this disease. Therefore an effective behaviour change campaign and building broad community support are critical to the success of our management programme.
In this role you will have responsibility for:
- Leading a team made up of staff from the programme partners.
- Regular review and refinement of the overall behaviour change strategy.
- Planning an annual work programme for your team and taking responsibility for the overall programme planning, delivery and
- Building community support and participation in the programme by developing and implementing an engagement plan with the programme partner team.
- Liaison with programme partners, land owners and forest users.
You may be required to attend events to raise understanding of the programme and behaviour change messages. You will be based in Northland (Whangarei), however, regular travel across the regions involved in the programme will be required, and you will be expected to work outside normal office hours at times.
You will be employed by MAF Biosecurity New Zealand, and report directly to the Programme Manager based in Wellington. An appointment will be made on a one year fixed-term basis.
You will need to be a highly effective relationship manager with extensive communications and community liaison experience. You will also need to have team management experience, and ideally will have worked within an environmental or science based organisation. Experience in engagement with tangata whenua and proficiency in Te Reo Maori would be highly desirable. The ability to be self directed, work autonomously, and be solutions focused, will be critical.
