The Ministry of Science and Innovation (MSI) is a new agency with an exciting agenda and ambitious mandate. Its role is to maximize the contribution science and innovation makes to the economic growth of New Zealand and its social wellbeing. Key functions include advising the Government on New Zealand’s science and innovation system, overseeing science and innovation investment and supporting infrastructure and fostering commercialisation to enhance productivity and achieve wider benefits for NZ through the application of research results.
Our Business Innovation and Investment Group will be central to ensuring New Zealand operates as a smart nation by facilitating the creation and uptake of research and development by business. These roles represent a rare opportunity to play a key role in fostering an aggressive and dynamic business innovation and investment ecosystem which will support the creation and growth of New Zealand companies.

Your measure of success will be the growth of entrepreneurial support and capability for New Zealand business opportunities, building the connections at an early stage of research, to ensure products will be marketable and speed to market. Achieving this will require a sound understanding of the commercialization process, preferably achieved through practical hands on experience.
We are seeking an influential thought leader capable of developing a long term commercialisation strategy and engaging the national network of commercialisation centres to bring that strategy to life so that research organizations and businesses better identify and exploit market opportunities and distribution channels for products and services are generated from publically funded research.
