Reporting to the Hospital Manager youll be responsible for nurturing positive relationships with the Medical Specialists (our customers) and ensuring their care expectations are exceeded.The role also provides clinical leadership to staff extending the presence of clinical leadership across the service ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and efficient client driven nursing care. This is an extremely varied role and areas of accountability will include: Overseeing the day to day clinical management of the post-operative care services Providing direction to Clinical Managers, Co-ordinators, Registered Nurses, Agency Staff and 2nd Level Health care team members (e.g. Enrolled Nurses, Anaesthetic Technicians, Health care Assistants) as required Maintaining your own clinical excellence with competence and knowledge in CPR, Infection Control, Fire and Evacuation, Health and Safety, Medication and IV Management Demonstrating advanced knowledge and skill and providing coaching and mentoring to team members Your decision making will integrate expert nursing knowledge with evidence based practice Lead the team in the management of emergencies and complex situations Facilitates critical incident debriefing Role models the utilisation of complex equipment and procedures Manages the recruitment, selection, appraisal and development of staff Effectively manages nursing resources across the service to meet workload demands ensuring efficient safe staffing ratios and skill mix Leads and educates others in the management of ethical issues Is proactive in ensuring the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi are applied to nursing practice consistent with the Southern Cross Maori Health care Quality initiatives.To be a part of this team you will: Be a registered nurse, preferably with a relevant tertiary qualification Have experience and ability in nursing leadership within a private surgical environment Demonstrate commitment to providing clinical excellence Competence in Surgical Nursing Practice Minimum five years post-graduate experience in surgical nursing Knowledge and understanding of Quality Systems and practices.
