IT Specialist II
Evaluates new and changing technology and develops recommendations for changes to equipment and processes. Plans and directs business plans and policies for the effective management of information systems to meet current and future needs of the company, satisfying the immediate and long-term requirements of users/customers. With direction from the Information Technology Manager, plans and implements short and long-term strategies, tactics, work plans and projects that provide for the orderly and cost effective development, installation and operations of information systems and computer technologies.
Job Responsibilities
  • Designs, administers, maintains and repairs all information technology solutions for the affiliate operations, including Local Area Network (LAN) operations, Private Branch Exchange (PABX) systems, video conferencing and server operations. Works with Corporate Information Services to diagnose and resolve Wide Area Network (WAN) issues.
  • Works with other UL IT staff to facilitate the design of upgrades to the existing network infrastructure, communicate local requirements that must be met, and assist in the delivery of the final solution.
  • Backs-up and maintains the server operations, ensuring that data is recovered in the event of any failures. Administers server operations, monitors, diagnoses problems, and works with suppliers and UL corporate specialists to resolve them.
  • Supports and maintains Personal Computer (PC) operations including the diagnosis of hardware or software failure. Maintains hardware and software in compliance with corporate standards. Acts as the liaison with vendors to repair or replace hardware.
  • Recommends new equipment for special projects according to corporate standards. Reviews, selects and recommends equipment and software that is not covered by corporate standards or is required locally. Responsible for local testing, roll-out and support of Corporate Systems.
  • Provides work direction and review for more junior staff. Trains junior staff in all aspects of the position.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
Job Requirement
  • Degree inApplied Science or a related field, plus generally four years directly related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize the work of other staff members, including finding creative solutions to new problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate work with staff in other affiliate, regional and corporate offices.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex technical problems made by the influence of a number of different technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage emergency situations.
