Role Summary and Purpose:
The objective of this role is to penetrate the mining, commercial and industrial markets for the GE Industrial Solutions business in New Zealand. As this is a newly created position there is enormous potential to create your own future with the backing of a Global Leader GE Energy!
As an experienced Industrial Technical Sales professional you will bring a skilled combination of industry sales experience supported with a technical hands-on background. Your ability to combine you technical knowledge and sales ability will be critical to outstanding success in this role.
Your role will include (but not be limited to) the following responsibilities:
Market Development
- Identify, track and tender upon project opportunities in the commercial, industrial and mining markets in NZ.
- Build relationships with key distributors, electrical contractors, wholesalers, consultants and end users.
- Identify OEMs and distributors for GE equipment and services
- Monthly reporting of sales, orders and margin performance of the business
- Involvement in the setting of annual operating plans for the business
- Plan and co-ordinate marketing activities
Technical Support
- Provide technical assistance to internal and external sales teams and end customers on GE Industrial products.
- Recognise the need for and then design and implement application tools to assist internal and external sales teams in the sales of GE products.
Be familiar with applicable Australia, New Zealand and International Standards which apply to GE Industrial equipment. The main standards being :
- AS3000 Wring Rules
- AS3439 Switchboards, Busway
- AS3497 Switchgear (less than 1000V)
- AS2067 – Switchgear (less than 1000V)
- AS62271 MV Switchgear
- AS60076 Transformers
New Product Introductions
- Analyse GEs current product and services portfolio and recommend necessary additions, modifications to establish a presence in the market
- Understand, monitor and advise of changes in the mining industry and the effect upon GEs product and services offering
- Work with the product management and technology teams to develop new products for mining industry
- Prepare marketing and technical review documents for New Product Introductions.
Customer Service
- Proactively promote GE Industrial Solutions to the market
- When required provide on-site assistance to distributors and end users of GE industrial equipment to overcome real or perceived problems.
Sales Team Participation
- Actively participate in Sales Meetings by providing input and advice.
- Communicate relevant information to other departments of GE Australia and New Zealand to ensure consistency and the delivery of excellent customer service.
Innovation and Excellence
- Develop competitive edge information to position GE Industrial Solution Products in the New Zealand market
- Constantly assess how we can create better technical relationships with our customers.
- Analyse market information and customer feedback to assist in the development of product enhancements and future strategies.
The Person:
To be considered for this opportunity you will possess Electrical Engineering qualifications and have prior experience in dealing with major consultants, designers and switchboard builders within an industrial setting (ideally in the mining industry). Experience gained within a large corporate environment will be viewed highly favourably.

- Travel this role will require significant travel both within New Zealand and to Australia (Melbourne) therefore you must be comfortable with this.
- Autonomy as the Sales Manager for New Zealand you will work completely autonomously. You will have the option to work from home and spend the majority of your time with clients/distributors/integrators and strategic partners. There will be regular contact with GE Industrial Solutions Australia.
