Currently we are seeking people with science and engineering backgrounds.
The work offers you the opportunity to consider patentability of a wide variety of inventions at the forefront of technology, from New Zealand and overseas inventors. The role involves developing an understanding of patent law and the application of legislation.
The role requires:
- Technical expertise.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Discipline an eye for detail.
- A genuine interest in technology.
As a patent examiner you will work as part of a professional team and advise applicants on eligibility of Patent applications. You will also:
- apply the Patents Act to your field of knowledge.
- search across the IPONZ and worldwide data bases.
- attend to patent correspondence by applying sound legal and technical argument where appropriate.
While each Patent application is unique the examination process is carried out electronically and involves a high level of routine practice. The team has output targets to meet and you must have personal drive and commitment to getting the job done efficiently and accurately.
