YMCA Massey seeks a confident and knowledgeable Basketball Coach and Referee to help us to deliver a fixed term KiwiSport contract and/or referee basketball games.The KiwiSport programme has specific KPIs that must be achieved, with the outcome of better skills and more opportunities for children and their coaches.You will be working with our Sports Leagues Coordinator to deliver a high quality programme aimed to increase the number of children being selected to take part in Representative team trials. You will also help to encourage and train parents and teachers to take on the role of coaching primary school teams in their local leagues and helping them to complete coaching clinics. To support this we also need a confident referee to help set up and officiate our junior and senior basketball leaguesThe successful applicant will need to be driven to succeed along with possessing all of the following:
- Prior coaching experience and a sound understanding of the skills of basketball and how to teach them to primary aged children.
- Ability to work independently across all ages, cultures and abilities, with an understanding of the local community
- Prior basketball refereeing experience, and an understanding of sports leagues
- Current full NZ drivers license and your own transport as you will be working independently in the schools
- Be reliable, punctual and adhere to YMCA core values of honesty, respect, caring and responsibility
- Flexible with hours which may include evenings
