Family Works Northern provides a range of strength based child and family services, programmes and community development initiatives located in ten community based centres and numerous schools throughout the upper North Island. Social Workers in Schools (SWiS) is an early intervention strategy which aims to provide school-based social work support for tamariki and whanau.

To be a successful SWiS worker you will be required to provide early intervention and preventative social work services to young people and their families, using a strengths-based, multi-systemic approach. You will be part of part of a multi-disciplinary site team comprised of social workers, family therapists, administrative staff and a Service Manager; however the role is based within a school setting. The team is responsible to the site Service Manager but reports directly to the Team Leader.

This is a great opportunity for a New Zealand experienced SWiS wanting to join our team. Are you:

  • A qualified and experienced social worker
  • Familiar with strength based principles, solution focused and goal oriented
  • Able to work across cultures
  • Interested in developing and/or facilitating preventative programmes
  • Experienced in working alongside Tamariki and their Whanau
  • Familiar with the Primary and Intermediate School environment
  • A can do person with outstanding communication and people skills
  • A member of ANZASW, you will be registered or eligible for registration.

You should also have good computer skills, a reliable car and a current driver’s license.
