FISHING BOAT- FV FRONTIER
SKIPPER POSITION
Our current skipper Ross Dillon, who has skippered the FV Frontier since launching in 2004, is moving on. As a result we are now looking for a replacement skipper.
Ocean Fisheries Ltd are based in the Port of Lyttelton, and currently operate 3 very modern fishing trawlers (with another 16.8m vessel due for launching in late 2011).
  • FV Frontier 19m long Fishing Trawler, launched 2004. This vessel consists of Skipper +3 crew.
  • FV Jubilee 16m long Fishing Trawler, launched January 2008. This vessel consists of Skipper + 2 crew.
  • FV Nessie J 13m long Fishing Trawler, launched March 2009. This vessel consists of Skipper + 1 crew.
Our fishing vessels currently fish 5 day weeks, with multiple landings within that 5 day week to provide fresh fish to local markets, generally departing at approx 0400hours Sunday morning and finish the week late on Thursday night. Skipper and Crew are OFF Friday and Saturday every week.
With a new skipper we are also open to new fishing patterns, so other time on/off variations are possible – maybe 10days on 4days off, or even 4 weeks on 4 weeks off, etc, etc – we are open to discussion to suit the skipper and crew.
_______________
FV Frontier
designed and built by Stark Bros Ltd, this vessel was launched in 2004.
It has a Caterpillar 3412E engine installed driving a 6:1 Hundested Variable Pitch Propeller.
The skipper enjoys his own cabin, with a separate cabin for up to 5 crew.
All Machinery, Equipment, Fish Hold, Amenities, and Crew Spaces are modern and of a high standard.
The vessel has a high spec suite of electronics including – Simrad EQ60 sounder, Wesmar HD800/110 sonar, Maxsea Pro Chart Plotting, Simrad ITI.
Machinery includes – 2 x auto scrolling winches 2500m x 16mm wire per side, cod end winches, 2 x net rollers, unloading winch, Salt water Ice Maker.
_______________
The Frontier has consistently landed an average of in excess of 1250 tonnes Greenweight per quota year, with a concentration in terms of volume on BAR1, ELE3, GUR3, RCO3, RSK3, STA3, SWA3, TAR3, WAR3, with only small amounts HOK1 available during various years to enable us to target LIN3.
All fish is landed to United Fisheries Ltd, and we aim to maximise the returns to vessel/company both through increased volume and also regular landing of quality catch for the fresh fish markets.
The package of ACE that the company has is comprehensive and enables good financial turnover to be achieved on a weekly basis, share of the catch ensures that a motivated skipper who catches fish is able to achieve an above average annual income and increased effort produces increased reward.
Due to the nature of Banks Peninsula, there are very few days per year when the weather precludes the FV Frontier from fishing, therefore we expect that the vessel will achieve a very high number of days at sea.
With an additional 16.8m vessel joining our fleet later this year, there is some advantages in discussing with any new skipper the possibility of the Frontier spending some time in Area 04 to reduce our dependency on Area 03 ACE.
Remuneration is a share of the catch, current catch values and shares will be discussed with short listed applicants.
We are therefore seeking an Experienced Skipper, preferably with NZOM Ticket, but NZCM would be OK, and with experience in Area 03 and possibly Area 04.
It is likely the existing crew will be available to the new skipper on taking over the vessel.
The vessel will become available in the very near future, so we are seeking a skipper for a start as soon as possible.
All applications should be by email, stating any previous experience, including vessels you have worked on, and should include your phone contact detail.
Short-listed applicants will be interviewed in person.
