By integrating best practice, water science and community engagement, Land Sustainability aims to improve water quality in the regions streams and rivers.The success of the programme comes down to positive and proactive Council-community partnerships.This role, being part of the Land Sustainability team of Council, will focus on assisting and supporting land owners working and living within Southland.Ideally the person who joins our growing team will have a tertiary qualification in natural resource management or related discipline, have a minimum of five years relevant working experience, with particular strengths in the areas of:* soil health* nutrient management* riparian and waterways management* the role of natural ecosystems.Strong people skills are also important, as you will need to be able to work easily and effectively with other people on a one-to-one basis, as well as in group and public forum situations.You will be involved in development and promotion of best management practices for sustainable land management, with an emphasis on an on-farm presence within the catchments; planning and implementing a field day programme to disseminate that information.
