The Fletcher Construction Company is the leading general contractor in New Zealand with unrivalled depth and breadth of experience across the construction industry.
At all levels of the organisation from the owner, Fletcher Building Ltd, through to our project teams, there is a real commitment to achieve Zero Harm, improve the health of employees and ensure excellent environmental performance. Achieving such goals requires even greater engagement on these issues with all our employees and those of our subcontractors.
To lead this initiative across the Building & Interiors division of the company we seek a senior and highly experienced Health & Safety and / or Environmental professional to join us. As part of the senior management team, you will report directly to the divisional General Manager.
Given the national focus of this role, you will be someone who is able to offer a strong track record in strategic level initiatives, from development and implementation, through to monitoring and reporting. Most importantly, you will have demonstrable people skills and a strong sense of mission. You will be passionate about people and the environment.
You will liaise directly with all senior managers across NZ to provide them with support and advice as needed. Through an indirect reporting line, you will also work very closely with the various regional Health & Safety and Environmental Managers. On an external level you will continue to build and develop relationships with key suppliers, government agencies (including ACC) and other industry players both within the Fletcher Building group and externally.
There are a range of compliance requirements at both Fletcher Building corporate and government regulatory levels to be complied with. The role will also be very hands on in relation to auditing, reporting, budget setting and management.
The over-arching priority of this position will be to drive culture change in relation to health & safety and environmental practices. Your ability to understand and influence individuals to modify behaviours will be pivotal to your success.
The successful applicant for this role will have worked at a strategic level for a larger organisation. You will have suitable tertiary level qualifications that can be demonstrated to have relevance to health & safety and the environment. Preference will be given to those with experience in the construction industry. Ideally you will have a strong working knowledge of the Health & Safety in Employment Act, however we will consider particularly impressive off-shore candidates who are serious about the possibility of relocating to NZ or those with strong environmental credentials who offer high-level understanding of legislative compliance issues and are proven change managers .
We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate their ability to make a significant impact on an organisations performance through a range of compelling initiatives they may have created, improved on or adopted.
Are you up for the challenge?
You will enjoy an attractive remuneration package and a range of Fletcher Building employee benefits such as an employee education fund and career development programmes.
