Transpower sits at the centre of the New Zealand electricity industry and is responsible for maintaining security of supply. It is the owner of the National Grid which transmits electricity around the country. It is also the system operator, responsible for co-coordinating and managing the transmission of electricity across the National Grid. The National Grid is New Zealands energy backbone and underpins and sustains the countrys economic and social activity.

This position works closely with Transpowers Treasurer and assists in managing interest rate, liquidity, credit, investment, funding, foreign exchange and commodity risk for the Transpower Group within policy limits set by the Board, and assists with managing Transpowers insurance.
Areas of accountability will include:
  • management and reporting of Transpowers risk exposures, and associated policies and procedures
  • assisting in execution of debt raising, interest rate risk management, foreign exchange and commodity strategies
  • managing Transpowers insurance risk transfer framework
  • providing insurance advice and solutions for risks associated with new business developments or construction projects, contractor risk, indemnity and insurance issues
  • managing relationships with external stakeholders, eg. with banks, funding providers and rating agencies.
Skills, knowledge and experience required:
  • proven experience working in financial markets and working in a senior position is essential
  • excellent treasury product knowledge of interest rate, foreign exchange, capital market instruments, including the ability to value these instruments
  • understanding of credit rating analysis
  • ability to critically evaluate hedge propositions from banking counterparties
  • excellent working knowledge of risk monitoring and management
  • a good working knowledge of insurance markets and rating agency requirements is beneficial.
