In this principal role you will be managing a small team responsible for the pro-active management of all strategic land management and Resource Management Act matters in a nationally consistent manner. You will ensure the Department has effective operational systems, processes and reporting mechanisms, and an enhanced reputation with all stakeholders, including councils and central government agencies. You will be responsible for ensuring the Department directly manages its own land and Resource Management Act issues, complies with all related legislative requirements, and proactively manages communications with all related key stakeholders.To do this effectively you will have at least ten years experience in the land/environmental management areas; proven experience in strategic property or land management at a senior level in the private and/or public sector; proven experience and an advanced working knowledge of the Resource Management Act 1991; an advanced knowledge and understanding of policy relevant to strategic land management; and knowledge of the principles of best practice land management. Successful multi-faceted programme and project management experience, along with a proven ability in financial management and control, contract development and management, management of consultants and contractors, and an understanding of the principles of facilities and asset management will be a significant advantage. Along with meeting the required technical skills, applicants will hold a relevant tertiary qualification and possess proven experience in a senior-level management role, coupled with an understanding of public service planning and reporting requirements. You will be able to show excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the ability to lead co-operative efforts, and influence and negotiate to achieve positive outcomes; well developed written and oral communication skills, including executive report writing; and familiarity with the Treaty of Waitangi and its application to the work of government agencies (including the processes of the Office of Treaty Settlements).
