Based at Whangarei Hospital, Northland New Zealand, this new position for a Specialist Physician is part of a service development which includes a restructuring of community based services and care of older people across Northland.As the successful applicant you will join the two existing specialist physicians for older people and work alongside a growing psychiatry for older people service. This service provides care for the older population of Northland which includes 27,000 people over the age of 65 years. It has a 20 bed Assessment and Rehabilitation ward at Whangarei hospital which includes a 4 bed Acute Stroke Unit. There are associated community rehabilitation teams, a region-wide needs assessment service and nurse specialist programmes for residential care and home monitoring. We provide visiting outpatient clinics on 5 sites across Northland and residential and home visiting services. The role will be based at Whangarei Hospital which is a 250 bed district hospital with all the major specialties.Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres with a population of 150,000. It boasts some of the most scenic and exciting coastal areas of New Zealand in a subtropical climate. Popular water recreation areas include the Bay of Islands and Poor Knights Islands Reserves.
